Migration

Created for the newly-built Wildlife Explorers Basecamp in the San Diego Zoo, this project features an overhead dome projection accompanied by DMX lighting in the fabricated plants for increased immersion in the space. The projection application features four phases per day, with a unique insect migrating during each portion. Flocking behaviors were utilized for insect flight behaviors and customized for each type of insect. A seamless video was streamed for the ability to transition to any time of day, avoiding heavy performance hits. Insects were programmed to be able to land on plants and hop across the projection with dynamic plant bending.
